Anyway, Dubai: our heritage hotel was everything I had hoped for; it is located in the Dubai ‘creek’ area - I would call it a river (!) and nestled amongst embassies, in the Umm Hurair zone which is a revelation. Beautifully restored traditional buildings, no expense spared, and lit up in fairy lights when we arrived about 1:30 in the morning.
It was so delightful, there was no way I wasn’t going for a walk! Absolutely gorgeous, and the light breeze added to the pleasure. We kept venturing out to view points along the water’s edge - My Friend (MF) who had expressed Zero interest in this outing, couldn’t stop taking photos.
About 3:30 a.m. (!) we got to bed in our delightful restored traditional room looking out over courtyards and city skylines.
I have to admit to sleeping very little (even though it was a very comfortable bed) but I had slept a bit on the plane so not too disappointed.
We got going early - whilst the temperatures were cooler - and breakfasted : again in a beautifully restored building. We sat outside and had quite a selection of regional foods.
It wasn’t long before the temperature rose - we noticed the heat when we walked the approximately 3 km to the Burjaman metro station. Excellent service to the airport and at 10 UAE, very much cheaper than last night’s taxi!
Last sector - another 8-hour one - to Lisbon. Another full flight. Plane not as spacious as the one into Dubai but the meal was very good and I had a few hours shut-eye!
A 9-hour time difference from Dubai.
